I’ve been told that my life is a result of making good choices and embracing change. Making positive changes has enabled me to selflessly serve others as I continue my real estate career. My satisfaction is the joy I bring to those who have blessed me as their agent of choice.
When I got my start in the real estate industry, I was an imposing figure. I’m 6’5’’ and had a shaved head and a goatee. I didn’t look like your stereotypical agent. One day, when I was first licensed, I was driving through a townhome complex with my two kids in their car seats when I noticed an older woman walking through the parking lot with an oxygen tank. Back then, the best way I knew to find business was to literally ask around. It seemed like a pretty safe bet that she had been in the area for a while, so I decided to speak with her.
I asked if she knew anyone who was looking to sell their home in the complex. She told me she was thinking of selling her house. I excitedly explained that I was an agent and would be happy to list her home.
Then I saw the house. My new client turned out to be a hoarder. No one else had been in the house for ten years other than the cable guy and the people that delivered her medical bed. These living conditions wouldn’t be good for anyone. I knew the house wasn’t going to be a financial windfall. Still, I was invested. I wanted to help this woman and prove to myself I could do this job.
She had agreed to move to North Carolina and live with her sister. When her sister heard about me, she understandably believed this was some sort of scam. I mean, we’d met in a parking lot! It turned out that my client was also about to undergo surgery, which added to the stress.
My wife, my sister-in-law, and my mother-in-law volunteered to help me remove all the garbage and pack what she needed for the move. Over time, she would invite them in, and they even formed a bond.
After she moved, I didn’t expect to hear from her again, although I hoped I would. Then, one day, I got a letter from North Carolina. It was a thank you note. Not only did she write kind words of thanks but also, because she had moved out of that horrific living condition, she was breathing better and no longer needed surgery! It was powerful to see just how much the transaction had benefited her health and her life for the better.
That was my second ever transaction. Since then, there have been a lot of transactions that I’ve taken on that I think other agents wouldn’t be willing or able to do.
The transactions like that show a marked difference in my life. There was a time when I was a more selfish person. I didn’t always appreciate my family. I didn’t take care of myself. I would become irritable and argumentative. I knew something was missing from my life: joy. There’s a Bible verse about the fruit of the Spirit being love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I saw how each could lead to the next and made it my goal to pursue them all.
It was a pursuit that required work. How others viewed me and how I viewed myself began to change for the better. I was grateful for what I had. I became a better husband, father, friend, and neighbor. It transformed my life and my work. This transformation led me to helping that woman.
Now, my work is fun, personal and filled with satisfying challenges. I look forward to what the next day will bring, and I look forward to working with you.
I was raised in Southern California but call Idaho my home now. For that reason, I have a deep knowledge of the market in both areas and a love and appreciation for both.
I have experience in home remodeling, electrical work and plumbing. I can walk into a house and know what is right and wrong with it and how to fix it because I have done the work. I will always go over any concerns I have with my clients, so they make the best decision for themselves. I also own a property management business, so I know what it’s like to be on both sides of the repairs and what are accurate prices.
My clients are very comfortable working with me. They even find the process to be more fun and entertaining than they were expecting. I look forward to providing you with the same enjoyable experience!
Sincerely,
Daniel Markley
